I met Anna + Nick by happenstance through the power of social media. I read her post about the troubles they were having in their wedding process and automatically knew I had to help make it easier for them.
There was something that lit a fire in me to jump in because I knew that I could change their wedding planning process. Okay, I know this sounds cocky, but it is the coordinator in me to want to make the best of a messy situation. Part of the reason I even was interested in the industry in the first place was because I knew that I was good at jumping into a difficult moment, reassure the couple I could make the moment easier, and serving them to the best of my ability on the wedding day. This is still a driving factor five years later, and even more so one year after starting my own business.
It still amazes me that social media can bring so many people together. If Anna had not posted about the struggles with her planning process, or if I had not commented asking if I could help, we would have never crossed paths. I am so happy that we did though, because I was able to witness one of the most selfless weddings I have ever experienced.
Anna and Nick have the purest of love, and despite all of their issues in their wedding planning journey, they still are as in love as when they met. As I sat in the consultation listening to all the speed bumps (date changes, venue mishaps, going to school for law/midwife practices, etc.) I was completely in awe how they still wanted to plan the day, and not run off to a court house somewhere just to make it legal. This is how I knew their love was genuine, and not marrying for the extravagant experience. I became more and more happy as I continued to chat with Anna about what they wanted for their day. She trusted me to set up her wedding with my design eye, which honestly is one of the biggest compliments that a couple can give. The moment when the couple reaches their day, after planning for months, and say “I’ve seen your work, and I trust your ability.” I cannot thank Anna and Nick enough for trusting me enough to take care of their little details.
When the day approached, I was both nervous and excited for the first wedding of my season. I have learned so much since this wedding, and now that I am finally writing this blog it has been hard to find the right words for the occasion. I learn so much from each event, but I learned so much from Anna and Nick’s wedding. I learned that love does not need to be represented by the traditional wedding, it can be whatever the couple envisions for their day. Another lesson learned, is that this community of wedding vendors will band together when a couple is in need. Anna and Nick had a difficult situation but the community came together, through social media, in order to make sure this couple had the best wedding experience possible.
This is something that I love about the wedding industry in Portland, when push comes to shove, the community is strong as ever. There were so many comments of people from all groups of the wedding industry, asking to help, offering services, and their venues at a discounted price. This is part of the reason, I do what I do.
Congratulations to Nick + Anna! Wishing you two a lifetime of love!
